Biorefinery and Biomass Transformation

The WCCE8 symposium on Biorefinery and Biomass Transformation in Montreal 2009 offers a unique opportunity to focus on the latest work in the area of biomass use, transformation and products. In particular, the symposium will be the forum for discussion on alternative sources for fuels and chemicals, and the impact these sources will have on society, the environment and the economy.

Scope

This symposium is dedicated to novel processes for new products from biomass. Both forestry and agriculture streams will be considered.

The proposed topics are :

Feedstocks

  • Agricultural residues and plantations
  • Forestry residues and plantations
  • Other feedstocks (municipal waste streams, etc)

Processes and products

  • Thermochemical processes
  • Chemical processes
  • Biological processes
  • Fuels
  • Bio-chemicals and bio-pharmaceuticals

Sustainability issues

  • Land use issues
  • Maintaining soil quality
  • Sustainable plantations and harvesting
  • Food vs. fuel
  • Well-to-Wheel analysis: are we really reducing carbon emissions ?

Publication

This symposium will be included in the WCCE8 proceedings. However, we encourage the submission of the full articles to the International Journal of Chemical Reactor Engineering (IJCRE)
