Micro Process Technology

The WCCE8 Symposium on Micro Process Technology in Montreal 2009 offers a unique opportunity to focus on a comprehensive participation and learning experience over the diversity of micro-structured components and their micro processing capabilities that may be used for chemical applications. Rather than a “disciplinary approach” the MPT topical conference aims at gathering many specialists for a transverse look hopefully generating new developments, in particular concerning the bridging between chemistry and chemical engineering. Communications are welcome and a selection of papers will be published as a special issue of Chemical Engineering Journal.

Scope

It is believed that Micro Process Technology will bring answers to actual environmental, social and business issues such as energy, safe production, new materials and products, to name a few. Of course, such a goal requires more fundamental knowledge on the design of micro process devices and their microfluidics, including their use for production or as laboratory tools, their fabrication technology and their characterisation as well as their integration and functionalisation. Last but not least, a session is devoted to the understanding of MPT not only for students but also for those, technicians and engineers, actually in charge putting this technology into industrial practice. This topical conference is dedicated although not restricted to the use and understanding of Micro-Process-Technology (MPT) to the following topics :

MPT answers to the PeoplePlanetProfit challenges

  • Energy generation & storage
  • Safer processes (dangerous chemicals, harsh conditions,…)
  • Environmental issues (sensors, analytical tools…)
  • New materials, new properties, improved product quality through MPT
  • Business issues (market, cost, jobs, new products, supply chain management, fabrication…)

Generic research on MPT

  • Production (scale-up/numbering-up, mini-plant, process design, sensors...)
  • New process windows (process intensification, new chemistries, …)
  • New fabrication techniques
  • Characterisation (Mixing, mass and heat transfer, microfluidics,...)
  • Lab tools (Screening of reactions, process conditions, products. HTS,…)
  • Smart micro process devices through functionalisation and integration

Teaching and dissemination of MPT

  • State of the art on teaching MPT including theory and practice

Publication

Abstracts of the MPT topical conference will be included in the WCCE8 proceedings. It is also intended to publish selected papers in special issue of Chemical Engineering Journal.
