Non-Intrusive Methods and Modeling in Particle Technology

The WCCE8 Symposium on Non-Intrusive methods and Modeling in Particle Technology in Montreal 2009 offers a unique opportunity to focus on a comprehensive participation and learning experience over the full range and diversity of methods for the characterization and monitoring of particle flow structures and dynamics.

As an increasing need for validation of granular flow models, this symposium will also present original problems and applications showing quantitative comparison of model performances with non-intrusive experimental measurements.

Scope

This topical conference is dedicated although not restricted to non-intrusive methods in the field of particle technology. Typically, these methods cover :

  • Tomography and radiography techniques : X-Ray, Gamma-Ray, Electrical Capacitance, NMR, Positron Emission
  • Velocimetry : Particle Image Velocimetry, Radioactive Particle Tracking, Positron Emission Particle Tracking, Laser Doppler Anemometry

This symposium will present recent advances in the development or improvement of non-intrusive measurement techniques, current issues and limitations, and covers original applications in the field of Particle Technology

The proposed topics are :

Applications

  • Fluidization
  • Suspension of solids
  • Determination of transfer coefficients
  • Particle coating
  • Separation processes
  • Dense granular flows
  • Mixing and segregation of particles
  • Pneumatic transport
  • Multiphase flows

Methods

  • Fabrication of tracer particles
  • Errors and limitations of the methods
  • New trends in tomography/velocimetry
  • Current advances in sensor design
  • Advances in visualization techniques
  • Signal analysis and filtering
  • Advances in data acquisition
  • Validation of particle models

Publication

This symposium will be included in the WCCE8 proceedings. Selected papers will be published in a special issue of Industrial Engineering and Chemistry (I&EC)
