Oil Shales

The increasing price of crude oil has spurred a renewed interest in production of shale oil. In addition to the ex-situ processes currently producing shale oil in Estonia, China, and Brazil, new in-situ and ex-situ processes are being explored in a variety of locations around the world. This symposium will cover both the fundamentals and demonstration aspects of these new and old processes as well as the business and environmental issues associated with making shale oil a significant liquid fuel in the future.

Scope

This session is dedicated to Recovery and Upgrading of Shale Oil.

The proposed topics are :

Topic 1

  • In-Situ Processing
  • Ex-Situ Processing
  • Environmental Issues for Production
  • Oil Shale Reaction Chemistry and Modeling

Topic 2

  • Shale Oil Characterization
  • Shale Oil Upgrading for Fuels
  • Specialty Products from Shale Oi

Publication

This symposium will be included in the WCCE8 proceedings. However, we encourage the submission of the full articles to Energy & Fuels.
